Oceanfront Pool & Landscape Retreat

Stinson Beach: A Coastal Retreat Shaped by Water and Light

Set along the edge of the ocean, this pool and landscape project gave us the opportunity to shape an outdoor environment defined by openness, ease, and connection. The home’s architecture frames the view, and our work was to create a grounded landscape where daily life could move naturally between the house, pool, synthetic turf, and water beyond.

We approached the outdoor spaces with restraint, allowing the landscape to support the scale of the property and the pull of the coastline without competing with either.

Defined for the Coast. Shaped by Everyday Life.

From the beginning, the goal of the Stinson Beach project was to create a seamless outdoor environment that could support both beauty and use. The property brings together multiple outdoor zones without feeling fragmented, allowing each space to flow naturally into the next.

  • A pool placed at the center of daily outdoor life

  • Large-format paving that creates structure and calm

  • Plantings that soften the architecture and frame movement

  • Open turf for play, pause, and breathing room

Pathways organize movement through the site, stairs connect the elevated homes to the pool court, and plantings soften the strong architectural forms. Our team considered every detail in relation to the whole: the view, the circulation, the light, and the way the landscape would support life at the coast.

A Pool at the Heart of the Stinson Beach Property

  • Generous poolside lounge space

  • Structured paving with soft green breaks

  • Planting beds that frame without crowding

  • Open sightlines toward the ocean

The pool anchors the outdoor experience, sitting between the homes as a shared destination that feels both open and protected. Lounge areas line the water’s edge, while clean concrete paving and green joints bring rhythm, order, and softness to the pool deck.

The result is crisp, calm, and highly usable. It gives the family and their guests room to swim, rest, move, and enjoy long days outside without the landscape ever feeling overdesigned.

Our team didn’t treat the pool as a separate feature. We built it as the architectural focal point of the property, tying together the homes, garden, synthetic turf, and view.

A Landscape Designed to Support the View

The ocean is always present here, but the landscape is what makes the property feel complete. It creates a sequence: arrival, synthetic turf, planting, pool, steps, patios, and horizon. Each space leads naturally to the next, allowing the property to feel generous, connected, and easy to use.

This project brings together architecture, pool, hardscape, planting, and light in a way that feels refined, California coastal, and enduring. By day, the landscape feels bright and coastal. At dusk, the lighting draws out the paths, plantings, stairs, and gathering spaces, giving the property a quieter, more intimate presence.

Let’s Walk the Land Together

Every landscape begins with listening: to the site, to the architecture, to the way you live, and to what the land can become over time. If you’re ready to create an outdoor space that feels intentional, beautiful, and built to last, we’d love to walk your property with you.
